We are a very happy, supportive and hardworking class who love a challenge! Our class teacher is Mr Palmer Our Learning Partner is Mrs Roscoe.

Our School day starts at 8:55am and I expect all my pupils to be in and ready to learn for this time. We finish at 3:20pm.

Our PE day is Wednesday and children are to come into school dressed in their outdoor PE kit. Children can wear their trainers, plain black joggers or leggings and black Summerhill sweatshirt/hoodie with their Summerhill P.E. t-shirt underneath. Children can wear their green P.E. shorts when it is hot. Black pumps are to be left in school at all times.

Our spellings are given out on a Friday and children are tested on the Thursday of the following week.

Homework is given out on a Friday and due the following Thursday

It is important that homework is completed weekly as this supports the children's learning within school. Children are also expected to read every day and practice their spellings at home at least 3 times a week.

Children are encouraged to bring in a healthy snack for morning break time. Ideally this should be fruit or vegetable sticks. As a healthy school we discourage children bringing crisps / chocolate biscuits on a daily basis. We do not permit sweets or chocolate bars for snack. Please do also be aware of the sugar content in cereal bars.

Children are encouraged to bring a water bottle with water only. Poor hydration affects mental performance and learning ability by reducing the brain’s ability to transmit and receive information. Studies show that once thirst is felt, mental performance including memory, attention and concentration decreases by as much as 10%

To help us support your child, we ask that you keep the team informed about any worries or concerns that you or your child have. By letting us know of any difficulties, we can ensure that your child comes to school happy and ready to learn.

Year 4 Staff

Miss Deary (1:1 Learning Partner), Mrs Taylor (1:1 Learning Partner) and Ms Owens (1:1 Learning Partner)

What we are learning about

This term Year 4 are learning about the Anglo-Saxons and Europe in their Topic lessons. In Science Year 4 are learning about Living Things and their Habitats.

Water Bottles

Please ensure your child brings a labelled water bottle to school, so they can remain hydrated throughout the day. Water bottles should be taken home each night to be washed and refilled with fresh water only.

Spellings and Times Tables

Children are using their Spelling Log Books to help them learn their spellings in Year 4. Children will be given words to learn that they are learning spelling rules for in class for a spelling test on Thursday. Please encourage and help your children to learn their spellings at home. Children will also be given times tables to learn, it is expected that be the end of Year 4 children know all times tables up to 12 in and out of order.

Reading

Year 4 have a wonderful reading corner packed full of engaging books to stimulate your children’s imagination and writing. Please encourage your child to read at home. Children will have either a reading book given to them, or they will be asked to choose a book to read at home if they are an independent reader.

P.E

Children take part in PE every week on a Thursday. Please ensure that PE kits are kept in school at all times. The indoor kit consists of green shorts, white Summerhill t-shirt and black pumps. The outdoor kit is a navy or black tracksuit and trainers. We will send PE kits home at the end of each half term for it to be washed and ready to be returned when your child comes back for the new half term. Please ensure that PE kits are clearly labelled with your child’s name. In addition, please ensure that any earrings are removed for P.E.

Medication

We can only administer medication that has been prescribed for your child. This will only be done once you have completed the required forms from the school office. If your child is asthmatic, we need to have a reliever inhaler at school. We are not permitted to give children over the counter medicines eg. Calpol. All medication must be delivered directly to the school office for administration.

Uniform

I know we continually ask that ALL uniform is clearly labelled but sorting them out really is quite a task if all the children take their sweatshirts off outside and put them in a pile!

Attendance and Punctuality

Please ensure your child attends school and please only keep them off if absolutely necessary. Also, the children must be on the playground ready for the school bell at 8.55am. This enables the children to be settled in class, ready for the school day to start. It is not nice for the children to be late or off unnecessarily as they miss out on what is happening in school.

Website and Permission forms

Our website is updated regularly with news of what the children have been doing and the topics and Creative Learning. Photos are put on regularly. If you have any changes to the permission that you may/may not have given for photographs on the website or in newspapers, please let me know and we will amend our records.

Homework

Children’s homework is set on a Friday and is to be handed in the following Thursday. Thank you for your continued support with homework.

Speak to Us

If you have any queries, concerns or if you would like us to be aware of anything, either at home or at school, please do not hesitate to come in and make an appointment to see us. We appreciate that it can be difficult to talk first thing in the morning on the playground. We care a great deal about the children in our class and firmly believe that working in partnership is the best way for your children.
