Welcome to Year 4!

Staff -   Class teacher - Mr Palmer       Teaching Assistants - Miss O'Donnell and Miss Cox

There is plenty to look forward to in Year 4 this autumn term! Our children have a shown such a positive attitude at the start of the year and how shown a willingness to learn new things. So far, our class has shown enthusiasm and commitment to the challenges of Year 4 and I know they will continue to do so in the coming months.

Reading - We are lucky to have an excellent variety of books in our library and children are welcome to take these home. Children should be reading a little every night. If possible, please take some time to read with your child as this can be very rewarding. Help them by asking questions about the text to check their understanding. Reading records should be brought in every Friday to be seen. Even if they have not finished their book please return the reading record so we can see that your child has been reading at home and enter them into the Reading Champion draw.

Water Bottles - It is important that your child has some water to drink throughout the day. Please ensure your child has their name on their water bottle in school. This should be brought home each night to be washed and returned containing fresh water each day.

Uniform - PLEASE ensure ALL uniform is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

P.E. – P.E. will take place every Thursday. Children’s kit should be a plain dark tracksuit (preferably black) white Summerhill T-shirt  and trainers.

Homework – This will be put on Google Classroom. The children will get spellings each week and times tables to learn. There will be a test on a Thursday. Children should learn their spellings and times tables every night.

Times Tables - It is expected that children know  times tables from 1-12 in Year 4, I cannot stress how important the tables are in every area of maths and they need to be able to recall this information with accuracy and speed. The children need to practise these so they can recite them quickly in any order and also know the corresponding division facts. There will be a national times tables test at the end of Year 4 in which children will be asked 25 times table questions with 6 seconds to answer each question.

Medication – Any medication required to be administered during the school day can only be done if:

Monies into school - all school based activities can be paid using SIMSpay - this is our preferred method. If you cannot do this then money must be sent in a sealed envelope clearly named and labelled. Please keep up to date with what’s going on in our school - use our website and twitter account!
