Candy Still Life

The subject of my candy still life drawing is making pieces of candy using shading and shadow to show proportions and dimensions of the candy bar, whoppers and twizzler that I chose to draw. I drew these pieces of candy using colored pencil of various colors. I also made a drawing of spheres using different materials to shade and show shadow, I used Charcoal, colored pencil, watercolor, and ink to make these different styles of shading. I made both of these drawings to learn more about how to show shadow in a drawing to make it look more realistic.

The way I showed shadow was shading heavily with color pencil and watercolor and shading lighter as I neared the center of the sphere. With charcoal I drew the sphere similar to the way I did colored pencil and watercolor but I blended the charcoal using my finger to create a more solid and fluid look. I changed the way I shaded the candy bar over how I did the spheres and made different shades of the color on different sides because of the rectangular shape.

The meaning behind this artwork for me mainly was to learn more about shading and shadow to use to make my artwork more realistic. This project could relate to many of the drawings that I have made that I was unhappy with because I didn't use shading correctly, but I can revise my technique and add realism to my drawings. I would have liked to add more detail to my candy as well as blending the colors more.
