The Blues

This piece is called The Blues. I started the sketch with graphite to get the shape of the face. I then went in with colored pencils. I then added layers of markers, giving body to the hair and depth to the facial features. Lastly, I used bright white marker to show the highlights of the hair and the face. This is all done on blue pastel paper. I wanted to show an emotion in this portrait. I used all blues to show the sorrow through the color. Blue is often associated with sadness. I used the bright white because I wanted a lot of highlight and shininess to the portrait while still being dark.
