Title: The People Are Scared

Size: very large

Statement:

This piece is done with sidewalk chalk. It's a quite large piece. Each face has the virus somewhere on it, showing how the virus has spread and infected not just people physically but also mentally. There is so much fear right now that I wanted to portray through the virus. I decided to make the people blue because it is seen as a melancholy color. The faces are slightly human, but also not entirely at the same time because I think a lot of people feel like the actions we must take right now feel inhuman. Not being able to hug our loved ones and keep our distance from everyone is not in our nature and makes lots of people feel uncomfortable. Around the all of the faces I did a few lines of color that then connected to a large virus cell. This shows how the virus is covering the world and effecting everyone's lives.

For materials, I used sidewalk chalk. I did this piece in an empty parking lot near the school.

Because this piece was meant to be about the current pandemic and my reactions to everything happening right now, I decided to do this piece with sidewalk chalk. Not only was this an opportunity to be outside, but also for their to be art where I saw people taking their daily walks. People find comfort in art and I hope at least someone stopped to look at what I made while they were outside. Originally, I was going to make one large face but I realized I didn't have enough chalk and I liked the collection of all the faces.
