Scholastics #2

Title: The Girls Club

Size: 12'' x 16''

Statement: This piece is a contemporary representation of some women. I started doodling one day and eventually the doodles grew into these type of faces. I liked the exaggerated features. I added the lines around the print because I wanted to bring more movement into the image. The collections of dots were to cover up and use some splotches of ink that had gone through the screen.

I first made a sketch of the faces. I then used translucent paper to print the sketch onto. After prepping a screen I burned the image onto the screen and washed it out. This took a few tries. The screen wasn't perfect so I patched it up with screen filler and tape. I then printed this on paper with dark blue ink. I then added the lines and dots with sharpie. I filled in the extra space with yellow watercolor. After printing this, I was still unhappy with how the screen came out, so I burned it again and it finally worked! With the new, better screen, I printed t-shirts and sweatshirts which was the original plan for the print.

Fot next steps for this piece, I would focus on fixing/covering the smudges with white paint. I also could add more to the background to create more depth and action in the image.
