Title: Be A Star

Statement:

This piece is meant to show why it’s important to be a tissue and organ donor. I wanted to do something with stars and the night sky so I added the call to action: Be A Star – Consider Organ and Tissue Donation.

For the foreground, I used black sharpie to create a silhouette. In the background I used watercolor and salt to create a marbled looking night sky. I then used white gel pens to create the stars.

I started the piece with the black silhouette. I then painted the background and added salt. After it dried, I rubbed the salt off. I decided to create a larger star among the smaller starry sky to represent the title “Be A Star.” The words in the sky blended into the background so I outlined the words with darker blue pen.

If I were to work on this more, I would maybe add more color to the background and clarify the title further.
