Wire Sculpture

May 30, 2019

These three sculptures are made of wire. The one on the left is a simple chain link, the middle one is a cube with a signature, and the one on the right is a paper airplane with a signature. To made these wire sculptures I used a small wire and had to connect them with little chain links. I used pliers to connect them and cut them. To sign my name I used 28 gauge wire that was much thinner and hand bent it myself. To make the cube I had to connect all the corners to the base, it had to be tight because it would slip if it wasn't. For the paper airplane I created two triangles to create the shape, then added the bottom wire to make it stand. The last thing I did was add supports to keep the wings from moving up and down. I chose to create an airplane because I thought it would be a cool design to have in a wire sculpture. At first for the plane I made it too small and had to recut the wire. Then at the end I didn't have supports so the wings would shift a lot, so I then added them. If I could make my sculpture better I would want to make the shape better with less bends and I would also like it to be more realistic.
