Sgraffito Clay Tile 5/3/19
For this art piece I created a sgraffito clay tile. To start I had to cut out a shape that I wanted, then I had to create a scratch board and scratch what I wanted into it. To draw into the scratch board I used the scratch board pencils that I would use to draw on the board. To make the clay tile I had to draw paint three layers of black ink. Then at its most fragile stage I had to draw out my shapes with a scratch board pencil and a needle pencil. After I had to cover it with three layers of overglaze to make it shiny. At first I didn't know what faces I wanted to make and after filling the page of faces I realized some faces were too small to make because it would chip off of clay tile so I made less faces and other faces larger. The reason I drew faces was because for my "beautiful oops" I drew a face and I liked to draw simple and detailed faces. I wish I could make it stronger by making better shapes or more ideas for faces. I also with I had a background to make it more interesting.
