Realistic Scratchboard

4/24/19 Realistic Scratchboard

I used scratchboard to create my drawing. The first image on the right is a value strip to practice shading. I used the drawing utensil with multiple tips. The photo on the right is of an ocean with docked boats. I had to grid the real photo and grid it back onto the scratchboard. I started at the top right and finished row by row. I scratched lightly to start at the top then harder as the negative space got lighter. When getting to the positive space I traced out the white spaces and finished that part easily. Then I continued to the draw water. Instead of starting at the top I started at the bottom. I only drew small areas of negative space. The negative space expanded as I drew towards the top. At first the positive space lines were too small so I had to repaint some areas. The photo was my own when I was on a friend's boat during a sunset. If I could change my work I would want to get some of the positive space look and match the photo.
