Time Capsules

My drawings are observations that I made while looking at the corner of the room, a candle, and while looking in a mirror. These drawings will improve greatly by the end of the year. All of these pictures are placed against a white background and are shaded to create a certain depth within the picture.

The first drawing is a shelf with shaded alcoves and a 3D look that makes it look real. The second picture is a self portrait that has a good bit of shading to create the illusion of depth. The last sketch is a candle that I had at my desk at home. I studied it from different angles and also moved my desk light to other positions. Like all of my other Time Capsule drawings I made sure that I shaded correctly, drawing a shadow in front of my candle.

I found out, by drawing these Time Capsules, that it is difficult to draw a picture because depending on where you are viewing the object or where the light is, the picture is so much different. I had to revise when I was drawing the candle because the light was making the picture look to shadowy, I wanted to make my picture look realistic and that included shadow, so I maneuvered the light to different positions and that made a great difference. My face did not turn out like I hoped but I am still happy with the result.

These artworks are some of my best that I have done. These mean a lot to me since these are my first drawings that I have done in a art class. I love the shelves because I like to work in 3D and this proved to be a fun challenge. I liked working on the self portrait; I had never done a self portrait before and am happy with what I have. The candle drawing is one that I like a lot. Mainly because I enjoy drawing objects and find it a new experience every time.
