In my work you can see that I made a whale. I took this picture of the whale at the Mystic aquarium in Connecticut. The other drawing is my value strip and to make different shades I used different shapes like dots and lines. I chose to make the whale because I really liked the picture and when I put it in black and white it had all of the shades, so it was a good picture to use.
I made it by choosing the picture that I wanted and turned it black and white. I used the two srcatch tools that we were given to scratch. I mostly used the red one because it worked a little better than the brown one with all the little pieces.
To make it I started by making a grid on the scratchboard and picture, then I kind of drew out where everything was going to go. Then I just started scratching based on my photo reference. My project evolved a lot because while I was scratching the whale I thought it didn't look good but once I finished it I think it looks a lot better. My next steps could be to make more of the shadowy parts on the whale because I kind of left a few of them out or didn't scratch them very well so I would fix that.
