Ceramics 1 Reflection
The project that I am most proud of is my pinch pot cow. I am most proud of my cow because I think it turned out a lot better than I was expecting it to, and it was pretty challenging for me to make it. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out exactly how I wanted my cow to look I think the hardest part was doing the legs since they are so small and I wanted them to be a certain size. One thing I learned from making this cow is that you have to have a lot of patience in ceramics and try out different things, because I know that when I was making it I was rushing trying to get the legs on and I cut out a hole in the wrong spot and had to stop and fix the giant hole in its body. So I learned that being patient is very important if you want the things your making to look good and if you want to be proud of what you're making. Overall I really like how my cow turned out, but if I made it again I think I would have made some more black spots on him under his head, because there are no spots there but I really like how it looks.
Taking caramics has changed my outlook on art, because before I took ceramics I wasn't very interested in art, but after taking it I really like art a lot more. Taking ceramics has changed how I see ceramics, because I now know that it takes a lot of effort and time to make good things and be good at ceramics. Taking ceramics really makes you think about the art around you and you realize how cool it is that you know the process of how famous artists make their work. When I signed up for ceramics I was just looking for a fun class that I could take as an elective credit that I would enjoy going to every class and ceramics did exactly that for me. In ceramics I learned that you don't have to be the most creative and artistic person to get a good grade and make cool things all that matters is that you meet the requirements of the project and that you had fun making it. Overall I really enjoyed taking ceramics 1 and I hope to take ceramics 2 next year.
A reccomendation I would make for class is that if it were a normal year without Covid and we had more classes to work on our projects to have deadlines for when our project is due and for when the portfolio page for it is due. I found it hard to know when I should be done with something, because there wasn't a deadline for each project to be finished. I think that that I probably wasn't the only person that could have used a deadline for the projects, because it was hard to know if I should be done or not. Especially with glazing it's hard, because you have to wait for it to be fired before you can glaze it so it's almost like you have to start another project or you're just waiting for it to be completely done. It also gets a little overwhelming when you're getting to the end of the semester and you haven't really glazed anything and you have a whole bunch of things to glaze. Overall I think there should be some more deadlines for when things should be done I think it would be helpful for me and other people too.
