Oil Pastel

Common Goldeneye

9x12

In my work you can see that I made a duck going through some reeds in the water. I chose to do this duck because I thought that the eye looked cool and I liked the colors of the duck. I chose to draw reeds because I read that these ducks are mostly in protected waters and I thought that the reeds would look like the duck is "protected", I also tried to make it look like the duck was going through the reeds.

To make my duck we were only allowed to use oil pastel nothing else. I used greens, black, white, blues, tan, gray, yellow gold, and brown all for the colors of my duck and the background. To make all of the colors blend together I used a tortillon. I also had refrence images to look at while I was drawing so I didn't completely make up the duck.

I first started by lightly sketching out my duck then I started using the oil pastel focusing on one part at a time. My project evolved a lot for example before I finishe my water was so bright blue it didn't even look real and now I have darkened it and it looks more realistic. My next steps could be to maybe draw a few smaller ducks or make the big duck all the way on the paper because I cut off the tail a little bit.
