Realistic Self Portrait

Self portrait: 12x9

Value Strip: 11x9

The first picture is my value strip which shows the darkest darks to the lightest lights and I drew the color in little raind drops. I chose to draw rain drops because I thought it would look cool and I didn't want to just draw the colors on the rubric paper. The second picture is my self portrait that I drew of myself. I chose this picture to draw because I thought it was the best looking one out of all the pictures I took, and it had all of the color range from dark to light.

For both of my drawings I used graphite pencil from 2h to 6b, 2h is the lightest and 6b the darkest. I also used tortillons to blend the pencil better so it wasn't as streaky. For my self portrait I used a ruler to draw grid lines so I could focus on one small section at a time.

For my values strip I started by drawing the little rain drops to draw each shade of black to light gray/white in, then I started coloring in with the graphite and I used tortillons to blend the color together better. For my self portrait I shaded in each box looking at the box on my original drawing to try and match it best to the picture, and then I used tortillons if I needed to blend the pencil better. My value strip evolved because this was not my first idea that I had for putting the different pencil shades in. My self portrait evovlved from not looking like myslef while I was making it to now looking a lot more like myself. My next steps for the value strip could be too erase the squares because you can still see the squares.
