Year 8 - Term 2 Portraiture

This is the step for drawing values.

I used charcoal to make shades and highlights

My first attempt but I decided to try another one

Drawing a charcoal portrait

Using charcoal to draw self-portrait. I used carbon copy paper to transfer my image into the paper. I highlighted some parts that I need to first, and then I started to shading.

Pencil Portrait using a Grid

This is the reference of my portrait

I used EE, HB pencil and a grid to sketch, see the right places for my face and shade the portrait

I  took our photographs in the studio using tripods and flashes. I experimented with different lighting to create different effects. I used grid method to copy my picture from my school ipad. I could see what was in the boxes such as my hair in the top left box, so it was easy to copy my image. The most difficult part was my ear part. I couldn't match my ear's size with pictue so It was quite hard.

Shading progress

Shading progress using EE, HB pencil and blending stick

First I practiced shading by drawing eyes with tutorials. I used EE pencil to shade dark part and I used HB to shade light part. For the eyes I marked highlight first and I drew some shades. I used value scale to see how dark the shade is. I blended pencils with blending stick and my hand.

Final work

I used different kind of pencil, such as EE and HB to create shades and some details.

I used crayon to create background.

The biggest challenge was shading my skin. It was hard to blend it until can't see the pencil line. My favorite part of my drawing is my eyes. I think my eyes are shaded most perfectly. My nose is quite small, so I will improve it next time I do self portrait.

I was keep checking my portrait to see if it looks like me, the proportion is right and to see value scales. I was reflective by improving my art work by my mistake,

I still tried to keep going even though it was hard and I didn't stopped by being sad about my portrait.

Unit 2 : Succulents in Chalk Pastel

I used grid method to draw my succulent. I used A3 paper.

Reference of my succulent drawing

This is how I've done for the first lesson of succulent drawing. I used my finger and cotton swab to blend the chalk pastels.

Final work

I did it with Olya at the second lesson because she was isolating at the first lesson.

Unit 3 : Abstract Painting

The first lesson, we painted an abstarct painting on A1 paper, with Olya. We also drew some abstarct digital art in app procreate.

Final work

I used acrylic paint the most and I used oil pastel and poscar pen as well. The painting is an abstract painting of a part of kiwi. First I painted the background, boue and yellow and then I painted the kiwi seed with acrylic paint. I used oil pastel for white pain part. I used the bottom of a glue to make a circle for the circle part. For the pink part, i splashed water on it (it was hard work🥲).

W.W.W - The circle part and pink water splash part went pretty successful and the results are pretty

E.B.I - i tried to fix my thick outline that i accidently draw with think poscar pen and i got a bit untidy T.T.. If i painted the brown pain more carfully i would be better.
