Cylinders&Elliptical shapes

In this project, I will be practising and experiementing with cylinders and elliptical shapes both on paper and Procreate. The shapes will be in 2 point perspective like the others, but no horizon lines will be drawn.

Paper work process

The sketching begins with a center line. Then, add numbers of ellipses to the center line as contour shapes of the cylindric shape I want to render. After that, I connect the ellipses with curved or straight line. Thick and thin lines, fine-lining, and ground shadows are used to elaborate the sketching on paper.

Keep in mind that the ellipses on the top are smaller and thinner than those on the bottom due to the perspective. (The perspective of this work is under the horizon line)

Like the example on the right, I can differ the sizes and angles of the ellipses to create curved and angled shapes.

For fine lining, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.8 pens are used to present thick and thin lines.

Procreate work process

For procreate work, I rendered it exactly the same way, but I also added highlights, shadows, and background color to make the shapes 'pop'.

Using 'Technical pen' and blue color, I rendered the similar elliptical shapes as the paper work.

Again, using the thick and thin methods, I sketched and fine lined the shapes. It was way easier for me to render on procreate as the stabilisation tool helped me to draw smooth line easily.

Foam modelling process

This time, I will be creating a foam model of my favourite shape from my procreate work.

The circled shape with wider top and smaller bottom is the shape I will be modelling.

There are several variety of foams for modelling; grey, blue, and white. Grey foams are the densest foams and then blue, then white with least density. I chose white foam for my first model as I thought starting off with least dense, meaning easily cut and filed, foam will make making the model easier and I can build up my skills.

I first started modelling with sketching my design.
