In this lesson, I drew basic 2D shapes using crating method (box method). Drew center lines for symmetry in a light shade, and drew over the lines with darker shade.
This is a mechanical pencil with blue lead, which can show the process of sketching clearly.
These are black fine liners for outlining the sketch. I used 0.3 and 0.5, for an easy start.
In this lesson, I retouched some of the sketches and started outlining with black fine liners.
In this lesson, I started to render the 2D shapes that I already have fine lined with some markers. I used two shades, C3 and C4. First I put one layer of marker every corner on the shape. The bottom and left part of the shape is where the shadows are created (my light source is on the top right), so I put 3 layers of C3 markers to make a nice gradation of shadow. After that, then I used C4 color, to add even darker shade on the darkest corner and the all fine lined lines to make the shapes look really 3D-like.
I used 'C'3 and 'C'4 marker. The same alphabet means same shade of color. For example, this marker is cool grey marker, and if the marker was warm toned, it will have the shade of W-.
Besides marker, I also used black coloring pencil, to really express the darkest shade of the shadow. I mostly used it in the corners and sides of the shapes.
In this lesson, I continued rendering my 2D shapes with markers. Below are some step by step progresses of my rendering with markers.
In this lesson, I completed rendering every shapes. The photo above is the finished product. I think the final product came out pretty well, but I could've been more careful with black pencil as there are some black lines sticking out of the shapes. Overall, the shapes look very 3D like, which I think I did a good job in rendering.
This shape is a shape that I outlined and rendered incorrectly. Looking at the 3D examples in the rst DT website, this shape is a cuboid with rounded edges. However, I sketched and outlined as a cuboid with rectangular hole in it. I should be carefull next time, comparing my sketch to 3D examples.
