Now I'm going to use my Ipad to render the shapes 'digitally'. Using many amazing tools in the app I will use, Procreate, I'm going to colour these shapes underneath that has already been fine - lined.
For easier colouring, I used the masking tool in procreate. Selecting the automatic tool let me to only select a certain area on the paper that I want to render.
This is a demonstration of using the masking tool on procreate. Don't forget to add new layer to prevent unexpected mistakes after masking and starting rendering!
This is the pen I used for the whole work. It is the 'real marker' pen in the pen package Mrs Douglas provided. It has realistic opacity and texture just like real marker.
For black colouring pencil, I used soft clean air. I sometimes used black colour for shadows, but I also used darker colour of the marker shade to make the shadow more connected and realistic.
Firstly, select the parts of designs that I want to render with mask tool
Then, open a new layer to prevent messing everything up at the same time
I could select various colours using colour chart in procreate. This is one of the benefits of rendering digitally.
Render the shape just like how I would do with real markers
Same as rendering on paper, add dark shadows for more dimensional expression.
Render the other parts of the design and ta - da! It's done with more precise and clean colouring.
After finishing rendering all of the shapes, add shadow on the background to give the floating - like effect. I used the same pen as black colouring pencil.
Then add few highlights using soft air highlighter 2. Lastly, I made an interesting background experimenting with many pens and colours on procreate.
Above is the final work of the first digital rendering. The marker rendering was easier than rendering in real life with real markers because I could adjust the thickness and opacity of the pens. Being able to pick many colours from colour chart and masking tool also made digital rendering quicker and easier than rendering in real life. Thus, the final work turned out great with the cool background.
