This is another practice of rendering, but now, I also needed to fine line the shapes by myself. Remembering the 'spider rule', I will need to outline and render this piece. The shapes are smaller, which will be a challenge for me.
Above are the blue pencil sketching I need to fine line and render with markers.
The spider rule is a technique that helps us communicate with the viewers. If the spider can crawl straight and can be visible, the thin lines are used. On the other hand, if the spider has to crawl underneath or side ways and cannot be seen after, the thick lines are used. For example, a thin line was used in the image on the boarder line between the cuboid and the cone, which indicates that it is not carved or separated, as the thin line represents the spider can be seen when it goes over that line. However, a thick line was used on the bottom of the rectangle and the outside lines of the shape as the spider can no longer be seen when it crosses over that line.
Thick lines on the end of a shape
Thin lines on the places where the shapes are connected
For fine liners, 0.8, 0.5, 0.3s were used to draw with the spider rule. Different colours and shades of markers were used to colour and add various tones on the shapes, and lastly black & white colouring pencils to touch up some details and draw darker shadows.
Some detail shots of fine lining processes, you can see the use of spider rule by the thick and thin lines.
Final fine lined work
Firstly, using the point of the chisel tip, outline the entire shape.
Then, add colours on the right & bottom, as my light source is in the top left corner.
You can even add a line in the midde to show the metalic texture of the shape.
Finally, add a darker tones of shadows and highlights using black & white colouring pencils.
This process works exactly the same to the other shapes. This is the first step of rendering.
This is the final piece using all the processes stated above.
Above is the final piece of the hand mixers fine lining and rendering. The use of various colours of the markers and black colouring pencils was great, but the overall piece could've look more filled and cooler if I added more colours to the shapes. The shape on the top left is my worst piece as the markers are everywhere outside the fine lined shape. I need to work more on controlling the thickness of the marker pen to prevent it from sticking out the fine lines. The shape right in the middle with yellow and blue colour is my best work, the marker rendering is super cool ! Marker rendering this piece wasn't very easy due to the small sizes and complicated design. However, I personally think I presented the designs very slick and 3D - like, which was my main goal of this work. 👍👍👍👍
