Study Hall Protocols Have Been Changing

The way study halls have been managed is very different now from what it was at the beginning of the year. In the beginning of the year, study halls were more relaxed. There wasn’t that much attention to those who may have not attended their study hall, or left for long bathroom breaks.

However, study hall teachers are now required to write up any students who do not show up to their study hall. A student is given a warning, and if the behavior is repeated, a lunch detention. These students are tracked down by Niskayuna High School’s newest employee, Assistant Principal Joe Coleman.

At the start of the school year, there was also a large number of students who would hang out in the library during study halls. They’d sign out of their study halls to go to the library, and play board games they brought to school with their friends. Due to this, study hall teachers are no longer allowed to let students sign out to go to the library without a pass. However, there are still a lot of students who sign out to go to the bathroom, and meet at the library.

Now, even going to the bathroom is more regulated. A number of teachers have started keeping track of how long students leave to go to the bathroom, and how many leave at a time. In the beginning of the year, this was more loose. Many people could go to the bathroom at once, whereas now lots of study halls only let one out at a time. Teachers used to trust one went to the bathroom when they signed out to go to the bathroom.

If the administration finds that despite all their restrictions, students continue to find ways around these rules, they will probably increase the punishment and the restrictions. If this continues to follow the trends it has been, then there is a likelihood that in a few months the protocols will be stricter.
