A Chorus Line

Niskayuna High School’s 2023 musical was announced to be A Chorus Line, and as auditions draw closer the excitement is beginning to overflow, from both the students and the staff.

Since last year’s musical Mamma Mia! was such a hit in the Niskayuna community, people have been wondering about what this year’s musical was going to be. On the first day of school, students and staff turned into the music wing to find a bulletin board with three large words on it “A Chorus Line”. While many students were excited about the musical selection, some didn’t even know what A Chorus Line was. “No, I didn’t know what it was.” Jacob Ciesinski (junior), who played Pepper in Mamma Mia! last year, said. “I am planning to audition though. I was nervous at first and then Mr. Hughes told me not to worry about the dancing and focus on the acting, and now I’m okay,” Ciesinski laughed. Robbie Titsworth (junior) had this to say, “I actually did know about it. My mom saw it on Broadway when she was 15. I’ve seen a couple of the school productions before like Mamma Mia! and The Little Mermaid but I’ve never been in one, so I’m excited to try out!” He continued, saying: “I’m feeling a little less confident for the acting and memorizing, but other than that I’m feeling good!” Titsworth and Ciesinski both stated that even if they don’t get in, they plan to be involved in the show somehow. They would be involved in the stage crew or they would come to see the show. Senior Anya Krisa had heard of the musical but never knew what it was about. “I’m planning to audition to be a dancer, nothing with singing because I’m terrified of singing in front of other people,” she laughed. “I haven’t done an audition in years so I’m nervous, but I’m also excited because it’s a dance audition for a show about dancers, so that’s exciting for me!” And as of October 31st, audition packets are out and available to anyone who wants to audition! Singing and acting auditions are on November 14 and 15, dance auditions are on November 16 and the cast list comes out on November 18. Good luck to all and here’s to a great show this year!
