HOME PAGE / LANGUAGE ACCESS RESOURCES / LANGUAGE DOCUMENT

Schools can utilize over-the-phone interpretation services provided by DOE'S contracted vendor – Linguistica International. The over-the-phone, or OPI, interpretation service should be used for parent / guardian interactions. In addition, OPI services are available via virtual platforms. When using OPI over a virtual platform, the service allows interpreters to dial-into MS Teams, Google Meet, etc., to join the meeting.

PLEASE NOTE: THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR DOE SCHOOL-BASED PERSONNEL ONLY AND MAY NOT BE SHARED WITH PARENTS OR THE GENERAL PUBLIC

Over-the-Phone Interpretation Via Virtual Platform

To have the interpreter join a meeting on a virtual platform, DOE employee must use a regular phone to call Linguistica and provide the dial-in number for the virtual platform.

Please note, the DOE employee coordinating the call with the interpretation service, must stay on the phone until the interpretation service is complete. The following step-by-step guide shows the process of how to use the over-the-phone (OPI) interpretation service on a virtual platform (i.e., Google Meets, Microsoft Teams etc.).

NOTE: The interpreter will dial into the conference, but will not appear visually.
