St. Francis students from Grades 4-8 have participated in the National Geographic Geography Bee since 2004. This school Geography Bee is the first step towards participating the National Geographic Geography Bee in Washington, D. C. The winner of the school bee then takes a qualifying test for the West Virginia Geography Bee. This competition, limited to only 100 students statewide, crowns the champion that represents West Virginia in Washington. Every St. Francis winner has qualified for the West Virginia State Geography Bee. In addition, St. Francis has had two top-10 finishers and four West Virginia State Champions.
