This course is designed to ignite your curiosity and deepen your understanding of the world around you. Throughout the year, we will explore a variety of scientific topics, including the principles of the scientific method, the properties of matter, the forces that shape our planet, the basics of life science, and so much more!
You will engage in hands-on experiments, interactive lessons, and collaborative projects that encourage you to think like a scientist. Together, we will investigate everything from the smallest atoms to the vastness of space, and discover how science impacts our daily lives. Get ready to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop the skills you need to understand and appreciate the world around us.
The curriculum for this course aligns with the West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards for Science, developed by the West Virginia Department of Education. We will primarily be using McGraw Hill’s Inspire Science as our reference material, however we will utilize multiple mediums to ensure all students have a solid understanding of each course topic.
Current Unit Overview: In science class, students are currently exploring the relationship between Earth’s systems and human activity. We are learning about natural resources, including renewable and nonrenewable resources, and how humans use them to meet our needs. Students are considering the benefits and challenges of resource use, as well as the importance of conservation and sustainability.
We are also discussing major global issues such as overpopulation, deforestation, and pollution, and how these challenges impact ecosystems and the health of our planet. Students are examining real-world examples to understand how human actions can both harm and help the environment.
Through discussions, activities, and problem-solving tasks, students are developing an awareness of how their choices affect the Earth. This unit encourages critical thinking about ways we can reduce our impact and work toward a more sustainable future.
