This course is designed to ignite your curiosity and deepen your understanding of the world around you. Throughout the year, we will explore a variety of scientific topics, including the principles of the scientific method, the properties of matter, the forces that shape our planet, the basics of life science, and so much more!
You will engage in hands-on experiments, interactive lessons, and collaborative projects that encourage you to think like a scientist. Together, we will investigate everything from the smallest atoms to the vastness of space, and discover how science impacts our daily lives. Get ready to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop the skills you need to understand and appreciate the world around us.
The curriculum for this course aligns with the West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards for Science, developed by the West Virginia Department of Education. We will primarily be using McGraw Hill’s Inspire Science as our reference material, however we will utilize multiple mediums to ensure all students have a solid understanding of each course topic.
Current Unit Overview: Our 8th graders are exploring the fascinating world of natural and synthetic materials! Throughout this unit, students are learning key vocabulary, taking guided notes, and engaging with readings and short-answer activities to deepen their understanding of how materials are created and used. The unit will conclude with a documentary on the impact of synthetic materials and a research project where each student will investigate one synthetic material in detail, exploring its uses, benefits, and effects on the environment.
