I'm very excited to be back for my third year at SFdSCCS implementing our Amplify ELA curriculum. With Amplify ELA, students learn to tackle any complex text and make observations, grapple with interesting ideas, and find relevance for themselves. I find purpose in SFdSCCS’s motto: “Here to serve, not be served." I strive to combine my educational and professional experience with my passion to serve as an educator to make a meaningful contribution to the SFdSCCS community. Just as students find relevance to their own lives with our engaging curriculum, I believe I authentically bear witness to the relevance of what we do in the classroom to both academia and the corporate world.
After receiving my graduate degree from West Virginia University, I have spent the last 17 years as a consulting historian serving clients in the private and public sectors in the management of cultural and historical resources. I have developed expertise in researching and writing histories, proposals, management plans, and technical reports and can work in both English and French. I have authored academic articles and historical technical reports, but I am also skilled at communicating histories in less formal outputs such as blogs, media articles, podcasts, and in creative histories, mostly poetry and short stories. Drawing on my experience in cultural history, research, and writing, I aim to bring a unique perspective to ELA instruction, helping students connect language and literature to place, story, and lived experience.
It is my hope that we will cultivate an ELA skill-set that transcends classroom walls. I believe and understand firsthand that the academic and corporate spheres need problem-solvers and that those armed with the ability to think critically and write effectively are changing and leading our world. SFdSCCS offers a unique opportunity in that these key skills can be framed within the context of students’ religious, moral, and spiritual development and I'm always eager to see the growth that ensues!
