WELCOME… to Physical Education for grades K-8. These programs enhance the development of cooperation, leadership, respect, problem solving, social skills and safety of others. The students are required to have a separate pair of shoes with non-marking soles to be used in gym class. Shoes that have been worn outdoors WILL NOT BE PERMITTED to be worn in the gym. Girls may wear shorts underneath their skirts on gym days. (I highly recommend this due to the nature of the activities they will participate in during class.) The student’s grade will be determined by the following factors: Grades K-3: Participation, skills test, equipment care, and attitude. Grade 4-8: Same as K-3, however they will also be required to complete written test and assignments.Grades 4-8 will be offered extra credit. I highly recommend they use it on a regular basis. Grades 6-7-8 may change clothes for PE class into their PE uniform. Grade 8 may wear their PE uniform to school on Friday’s when they go to work with the special needs children.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION GOALS:
Physical Education provides a developmental program of learning experiences which contribute to the cognitive and psycho-motor needs of each student. It also provides experiences through which our students will grow to their full potential not only physically but intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually by supporting "the life-long formation of the whole person, and being committed to serve, not to be served." Together we work to support creative movement, physical conditioning, perceptual motor skills, sport skills, lifetime fitness and athletic activities as well as competitive attitudes, the value of sportsmanship and the importance of safety. The program places emphasis on the development of fitness, cooperation, leadership, respect and social skills. In addition, staff emphasis the importance of safety, respect for rules, equipment, and others as well as teamwork. Students are exposed to strategies that build basic concepts, different learning experiences and the integration of a lifetime of fitness.
