This course is designed to ignite your curiosity and deepen your understanding of the world around you. Throughout the year, we will explore a variety of scientific topics, including the principles of the scientific method, the properties of matter, the forces that shape our planet, the basics of life science, and so much more!
You will engage in hands-on experiments, interactive lessons, and collaborative projects that encourage you to think like a scientist. Together, we will investigate everything from the smallest atoms to the vastness of space, and discover how science impacts our daily lives. Get ready to ask questions, make discoveries, and develop the skills you need to understand and appreciate the world around us.
The curriculum for this course aligns with the West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards for Science, developed by the West Virginia Department of Education. We will primarily be using McGraw Hill’s Inspire Science as our reference material, however we will utilize multiple mediums to ensure all students have a solid understanding of each course topic.
Current Unit Overview: As students wrap up their Body Systems Projects, this is our last week on Body Systems before diving into forces and motion. Next week, our 7th graders are kicking off an exciting new unit on Forces and Motion! In this physics-focused unit, students will build their understanding through vocabulary practice, guided notes, readings, and hands-on activities. They’ll explore how forces cause motion, how to calculate speed and acceleration, and how these concepts shape the world around us. Math skills will play a big role as students apply formulas and data to real-world examples. We’ll be diving into physics for a while, setting a strong foundation for future science learning!
