Brother Campion John Nolan, C.S.C. (1910-1978)
Doyle House

The precision and shadow with which Brother Campion captured the Doyle House (which stood on campus into the 1960s) reflects his own tidy yet mysterious life. His biography reveals more about his deep sense of privacy than his character. Much of Brother Campion’s life took place in deep physical pain including a crippled hand, back trouble, and ever-worsening arthritis. One can only imagine that his art was a literal labor of love.
