INTRODUCTION

In Jewish society in Jesus's time,touching certain substances were believed to make a person ritually unclean, or impure in the eyes of God. Anyone could become ritually unclean but not everyone could become pure again. As a result of ritual impurity, people were temporarily or permanently excluded from society. Jesus showed that this was not the way to treat people who were suffering.
