Christians believe that the Bible is very important as it contains the teachings of God and the life and ministry of Jesus_ and these influence how Chrsitians live their lives. As we learned in Chapter 1, the Bible is like a library: it contains many different smaller books within itself. This means that Chrsitians navigate the Bible differently from other books, so that they can find the teaching that they need. When Christinas use the word Scripture, they are referring to the Bible.

The word "testament", Hebrew berîth, Greek diatheke, primarily signifies the covenant which God entered into first with Abraham, then with the people of Israel.
Christians venerate the Old Testament as the true word of God. It is an indispensable part of Sacred Scripture. While the Church reads it with a Christian understanding as prefiguring of the New Testament, these Hebrew Scriptures have their own content, their own context and their own integrity. It tells the story of the ancient Israelites, or Hebrew people, and contain the laws and rituals that comprise their religion. For Jews, the collection comprises the Torah—the law for worship and everyday living—as well as the history of God's promise to them. In Catholic Bibles, the Old Testament contains 46 books

It also shows how the early Church began to grow in the Acts of the Apostles and through the letters sent by early church leaders to different Chrsitian communities
