V-Level Digital Systems & Data
The V-Level in Digital Systems & Data is a new Level 3 technical qualification, available for first teaching nationally from September 2027. It places greater emphasis on applying technical knowledge and skills to realistic situations and problems. Students will develop knowledge and skills across areas including:
Digital systems and how they are used within organisations
Data, data modelling and databases
Data analytics and visualisation
Networking and cloud technologies
Cybersecurity and secure digital systems
Programming and automation
Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies
Designing and developing effective digital solutions
The legal, ethical and professional considerations involved in working with digital technologies
The course is particularly suited to students who enjoy learning about technology through a combination of theory and practical application.
Entry Requirements
Students should meet the Sixth Form’s general entry requirements and have a strong interest in computing, digital technology and problem-solving.
For the V-Level in Digital Systems & Data, students should normally have achieved at least Grade 4 in GCSE Mathematics and English. Previous study of GCSE Computer Science is not required.
As the final qualification offered will depend on the incoming cohort, individual suitability and entry requirements will be discussed with students before enrolment.
Delivery and Assessment
The V-Level combined external examinations with substantial non-exam assessment:
40% assessment by examination
60% non-exam assessment
This provides students with opportunities to demonstrate their understanding through practical and applied work as well as written examinations.
As a new national qualification for first teaching from September 2027, final awarding-body arrangements and detailed assessment information will be shared with students as these are confirmed.
Progression
V-Level Digital Systems & Data provides preparation for progression into technical and applied digital routes, including higher and degree apprenticeships, employment and further study in areas such as Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Digital Technology, IT, Cloud Computing and Information Systems.
Potential careers across the wider digital sector include software development, cybersecurity, data analysis, network and cloud engineering, artificial intelligence, database development, systems analysis and many other technology-focused roles.
