Cambridge Technical PE final.mp4

This qualification is equivalent to one A Level.  Students need to be physically active and ideally take part regularly in physical activity.  They will be required to coach and organise sports sessions and events during the course.  They will be assessed as a performer in a team sport, an individual sport and as an official.  The wide range of assessments and the evidence you will have by the end of your course will give you a great springboard to the next stage of your studies or career.

THE COURSE

You will cover a wide range of units that examine how sport and physical activity  interact in the modern world.  We will examine how the body systems react to physical activity.  We will research and apply key sports coaching principles and you will have the opportunity to be assessed as a coach/leader.  We will explore the different organisations involved in developing and delivering sport across this country and the world.  You will then have the chance to plan, organise and lead sporting events to increase your all-round skill-set.  You will work with your peers to lead a final sporting festival covering all elements of the organisation, including risk assessments, rewards, refreshments and first aid.

We will also analyse your practical skills, techniques and tactics in team, individual and outdoor activities to give you a better all-round appreciation of what is needed to be successful in different areas of sport.  The outdoor activity assessment will be conducted in an outdoor education centre and will require you to perform a number of tasks independently.

As part of the course, you will need to coach and organise sessions and events.  We will support you in this and we will use KS3 students and our community sports links and links with local Junior Schools to support you in this.  You will need to be independent and proactive in this regard.  A great way to gain evidence and experience is by assisting in our extra-curricular activities

We will cover five units across the two-year course.  Two of the units are externally assessed through written exams.  These can be taken at any stage we feel you are ready for them during the two-year course.  We will aim to do one exam towards the end of Y12 and one towards the end of Y13.  The other three units are internally assessed through assignments and other forms of hard evidence such as videos and observation records.

The variety of assessment methods and challenges throughout the course are great for your CV and to prepare you for the rigours of University or the practical challenges of apprenticeships or full-time work.  You will have lots of evidence to support your application for the next stage of your life.
