Question

I am applying from a different school and I’m nervous about going somewhere new and not knowing anyone.

Answer

Do not worry, you will be well looked after. Students here are very welcoming and you will no doubt make friends in no time at all.  There will be opportunities to meet other prospective student’s during the Taster Day and Transition Day. We will also pair you with a ‘buddy’ for your first day. They will greet you at the front of the site and will be on hand to help you navigate your way around the site and introduce you to your new classmates.

How do I apply to come to Sprowston Sixth Form?

Follow the link in the menu bar in the Sixth Form area of the main school website or our website. You will be directed to ‘Help you choose’ where you can fill in your application.

When will I know if I have been accepted?

After applying, you will be invited to attend an interview. At this interview we will discuss with you your intentions and suitability for the courses you have applied for. We will then send you a letter to confirm your place at Sprowston Sixth Form. The time this takes depends on a number of factors, but rest assured we will inform you as soon as possible and is usually only a matter of a few weeks.

What do I do when I have received my results?

On results day, the Sixth Form team will be on site to enrol students onto their courses. If your results do not quite meet the entry requirements, staff will be there to support and guide you through the process. If you are unable to attend on results day, you can still receive the same support and guidance by contacting the Sixth Form team via email.

What is the dress code?

We have a smart casual dress code, where clothing should be business appropriate. We want our students to be comfortable yet smart. The following items are considered inappropriate: Crop tops, low cut tops, short skirts/shorts, ripped jeans, any clothing that contains offensive language or slogans.

Do I have to stay on site at all times?

At the start of the academic year, all Year 12 students remain on site for all study periods until they have settled into good study habits. At this point students' progress and attendance will be taken into consideration for authorising 'home study' during their free periods.

What facilities are available for students to use in their study periods?

One of the benefits of coming to our Sixth Form is that you have a large school site with excellent facilities. Within the Sixth Form Area we have several study spaces equipped with computers, these are used for either silent or quiet study depending on which area you are in. There is a cafe area where hot and cold food is available at lunchtime and also vending machines. Finally there is the common room for socialising and relaxing. Students also have access to the school wifi so that they can bring in their own laptops to use if they wish to.

Do you offer any financial support?

Yes. Students can apply for a bursary which is subject to household income. All students will receive information on eligibility and how to apply when they start.

What food provision is there at Sprowston?

Sixth formers have their own common rooms and cafe where they can purchase food at lunch and breaktimes. There are also vending machines for the students to use.
