Enrichment

The experience, both academically and socially, of studying in the Sixth Form is very much a stepping stone between formal and independent study. The relationship with teaching and pastoral staff is very different to that of Year 11, students often describe it as ‘more informal teaching’ but this stems from the fact that Sixth Form students have greater responsibility for their own learning, and are encouraged to engage with concepts and skills and apply knowledge in a very mature way.

The student social experience is lively and spans the whole year, from less formal social events to the formal Sixth Form Leavers Celebration. Sixth Form students have dedicated study and social spaces available during the Sixth Form day.

Enrichment Opportunities

Our developing enrichment programme offers a fantastic balance to student's academic studies. The additional activities available provide students with an opportunity to develop key skills that will enable them to take the next step in future careers. Opportunities available range from additional academic qualifications that offer UCAS credits to opportunities and experiences that will enrich your CV.

Some of the opportunities on offer include the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), Core Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Sports teams and events, Volunteering and Mentoring.

Work Experience

During Year 12, all students will undertake a week long work experience. This is an opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of potential career paths and develop key skills.

Student Ambassadors

There are opportunities through the enrichment programme for Sixth Form students to work within the main school. This could be in a variety of roles such as, in class support, mentoring younger students or being a reading 'buddy'. The skills gained during volunteering are an excellent way to enhance CV's and personal statements.

Extra – Curricular

Many subjects offer extra-curricular involvement such as educational visits, seminars, competitions and lectures which enrich the subject experience and often contribute to decisions to continue studies at degree level.

Sports and leisure opportunities

We have Sixth Form representative teams for football, netball, basketball and handball. Students also have access to our fitness suite during lunchtimes and free periods.
