The school receives an allocation of funds which we have a duty to ensure is spent in ways which help break down any financial barriers and help to deal with the costs of being in education. There are two different funds which are available to students.
Bursary for students in vulnerable groups
You may be able to get a bursary if at least one of the following applies:
you’re in or you recently left local authority care
you get Income Support or Universal Credit because you’re financially supporting yourself
you get Disability Living Allowance (DLA) in your name and either Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Universal Credit
you get Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in your name and either ESA or Universal Credit
Discretionary Bursary
Eligibility for the Discretionary Bursary takes into account various aspects of family income and evidence of this will be required to process applications. For the 2024-2025 academic year the threshold of household income to be eligible is up to £27,500 per annum or less.
Both bursaries can only be spent on certain items which are deemed to be the costs of accessing education, these include:
Stationery
Equipment required for subjects such as Art books
Revision guides and workbooks
UCAS application fee
University visit/interview – train fare for the student only
Educational visits
Transport to and from Sixth Form: bus tickets are purchased in advance
Transport to and from work placement and work experience
