Drama Department
The course gives you the opportunity to achieve a National Progression Award (at SQCF Level 6) The award is also designed to meet the needs of learners who wish to develop a foundation for progression to further study and to provide skills and knowledge appropriate to the theatre industry.
To sit this course, you must have prior qualifications in Drama and English at minimum C at Nat 5 in both subjects.
PERFORMING IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE IS MANDATORY
Assessment
In both of the NPA courses, you will be marked internally by the classroom teacher. Assessments are both practical and written.
In the course, there are two mandatory units:
Unit 1:Technical Theatre in Context
This is when you will learn the knowledge and skills which are directly relevant to current and/or future practice in the technical theatre industry. You are assessed in written, oral, open and closed book conditions.
Unit 2: Theatrical Design
Candidates will create a design folio. Here they will Demonstrate an ability to match a theatrical design to a text and performance space for a production and produce final designs in liaison with the director and/or production team. You are assessed written, orally, open book folio.
Unit 3: Specialism
The third and optional unit is when the candidates choose their own area of specialism out of- Theatre Stage Lighting Operations, Theatre Stage Sound Operations, Theatrical Prop Making, Creative Project, and Theatre Stage Model Set Construction. This includes open and closed booked assessments as well as a final practical assignment.

Course in general - In these units, a candidate will learn to cooperate, communicate and collaborate creatively with other members of the class. These transferable skills translate into real-world situations where you will work in groups not always necessarily with friends.
Practical presentations - In these moments you will learn to become more confident and competent when speaking publicly. You’ll also learn improvisation, adaptability and focus when on stage as you will have to learn how to commit to rehearsals and line learning. You will also learn to evaluate yourself and others.
Written tests - In these moments you will learn how to manage your time and prepare for high-pressure situations. You will use critical thinking and literacy skills along with creativity in your answers whilst taking the initiative to attend supported study, hand in homework and achieve the best results you can.
