Technical Department
The Practical Woodworking course gives you hands-on experience with real-world woodworking skills. Mostly based in a workshop, you'll spend time working with tools and materials, but there’s also a written part where you'll cover the theory, safety, and techniques behind it all.
The course is split into three main areas:
Flat-frame construction
You’ll learn how to use woodworking tools to create joints and assemblies for flat-frame joinery, taking on more complex builds as you progress.
Carcase construction
This area focuses on the skills needed to construct larger, box-like structures, helping you get comfortable with advanced woodworking techniques.
Machining and finishing
Here, you’ll get to use machines and power tools to prepare and finish your work, learning professional surface preparation and finishing techniques to complete your projects to a high standard.
It's the perfect course for anyone looking to build confidence in practical skills while mastering woodworking fundamentals!
At Lanark Grammar, we teach National 4 and National 5 Practical Woodwork.
