ASN Department
In ASN there are a variety of different courses you can undertake throughout your senior phase which provide awards other than through SQA qualifications. From the Hi-5 award to Dynamic Youth and King’s Trust, there are lots of different choices to suit the needs of every learner.
Whether you’re interested in volunteering, improving your enterprise skills, or simply learning a new skill, there will be an award for everyone.
Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. There are no final exams for any wider achievement awards.
Any learner can be involved in Wider Achievement Awards however pupils whose strengths lie in practical tasks do well. A positive attitude and a willingness to do better for yourself or others usually ensures pupils excel with these awards.
High 5 Award - To gain a Hi5 Award, young people choose a ‘challenge’, complete a minimum of 5 hours of activity, think about and comment on their achievements, record time spent on their activities and gather evidence of their participation.
Dynamic Youth Award - This is a level up from the High 5 award and young people still have to complete a ‘challenge’ activity but this has to be for a minimum of 10 hours.
King’s Trust Award - This award recognises Enterprise and Employability. Learners complete 2 units and will develop their own personal growth and engagement in, and through, learning.
All of the Wider Achievement Awards we offer help to build skills which will aid young people throughout their life.
