PE Department
The course is delivered through practical sessions as well as theory lessons and uses sport to deliver fun and engaging physical activities with other students and within the school community.
Students will plan, lead and evaluate sports/physical activity sessions over a number of tutored hours and then demonstrate their leadership skills as part of their assessment .
The courses involve both guided & peer-to-peer learning and supervised leadership to ensure that learners have all the skills they need to lead basic physical activities to other people.
Assessment
Pupils complete a Learning Evidence Log (LER) during the course of the year. They are practically assessed based on the courses identified 5 life skills: Communication, Self-belief, Teamwork, Self-Management and Problem Solving.
Exam: There is no written exam.
This Course is suitable for all learners who have an interest in and an enthusiasm for developing their leadership and employability skills through Physical Activity and Sport.
The Sports Leadership qualifications are designed to use sport and physical activity to help young people develop and hone their leadership skills whilst helping themselves and others stay physically active.
Develop confident, healthy leaders through sport and physical activity.
Young people undertaking a qualification in Sports Leadership will learn and demonstrate important life skills such as effective communication and organisation whilst learning to lead basic physical activities to younger people, their peers, older generations and within the community.
Understand the key elements and differences of leading, coaching and teaching.
Understand the safeguarding of participants and how this affects an event.
Understand the effects of sport/physical activity on children, older people and disabled people
Be able to deliver a sport/physical activity session to
older people, pupils in S1-3, Primary School children and pupils with Additional Support Needs (ASN)
