Music Department
The NPA in Musical Theatre is designed to equip candidates with an introduction to the knowledge, understanding and skills required for progression to further qualifications and/or potential employment within the performing arts industry.
Assessment
This course consists of three units all of which are internally assessed.
Unit 1 - Acting through Song
Candidates will rehearse and prepare two musical theatre songs for performance in front of an internal assessor.
For each chosen song, candidates will carry out research on the character and musical which will be concluded in a 500 word essay for each song.
Unit 2 - Preparation for Audition
Candidates will prepare two contrasting pieces for audition, with a minimum duration of 5 minutes and evaluate the performances.
This can be in the form of:
Song
Monologue
Dance
They will be required to research different careers associated with the performing arts, focussing on three.
Unit 3 - Theatre Performers Group Singing Skills
Candidates will identify different group singing rehearsal techniques and incorporate them into rehearsals led by them. The group will aim to sing two contrasting musical theatre pieces and the candidate will evaluate the rehearsal and performance.
