Powering Futures aims to empower the next generation with enhanced skills and abilities, creating a talent pipeline for businesses transitioning to Net Zero.
These skills and abilities are developed within this programme, where learners engage with real-life business challenges through problem-based, interdisciplinary learning.
Learners will develop their meta-skills by creating a sustainable solution to a real-life business challenge and presenting this to a panel of judges. As learners engage in this programme, they are exposed to the application of meta-skills within workplace settings, which will support them in their progression to positive and sustained destinations.
Powering Futures is a Level 6 SCQF.
Assessment
This course is continually assessed throughout the entire academic year. Learners are assessed against their achievement of Performance Criteria within an Outcomes Table by the delivery teacher.
Learners can gather their evidence through a provided logbook, however, appropriate assessment arrangements can also be made at the discretion of the delivery school and in consultation with Powering Futures.
Elements of Outcome 4 are assessed by observation by the delivery teacher.
Entry into the Powering Futures Challenge is at the discretion of the school, although learners must be able to access level 6 learning and it is strongly recommended that learners have good attendance and a positive and motivated attitude to learning.
Powering Futures provides a unique opportunity to deliver on improvement priorities linked to learning for sustainability and developing the young workforce and attainment through real problem-based, interdisciplinary learning. In teams, learners collaborate to solve a real sustainability problem set by businesses. They then present this to a panel of industry judges at the end of the programme.
The course is broken down into three sprints:
Sprint 1: This coincides with Outcome 1 and is delivered between August and the October Holiday. Students focus on learning to work in a team and choosing their challenge.
Sprint 2: This coincides with Outcome 2 and is delivered between the October Holiday and the Christmas Holiday. Students focus on working together to create their sustainable solution.
Sprint 3: This coincides with Outcomes 3 and 4 and is delivered between January and the Easter Holiday. Students focus on creating their presentations and delivering them to a panel of judges.
Due to the skills-based nature of the course, this will provide a stepping stone to many careers across several curriculum areas.
