I am a soil scientist and presently the National Leader for Soil Interpretations for the US Soil Survey Program of the United States Department of Agriculture. I am also the 2017 Chair of the Urban and Anthropogenic Soils Division for the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA). My professional focus for the past 35 years has been in soil survey with a concentration in urban environments; and specifically collegiate soil judging, agronomy and soil health in the past 5 years. I have been a Certified Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS) with the Soil Science Society of America since 1998. I was the lead scientist to map the City of Baltimore, Maryland, USA which was the 2nd urban soil survey to be published in the US in 1989.

My focus in soil survey and its interpretation for use and management has allowed me to study and work internationally covering a wide breadth of subjects and applications. I am presently supporting the International Union of Soil Scientists(IUSS) SUITMA working group as a lead editor for their most recent publication Soils within Cities as well as coeditor for the SUITMA8 proceedings in the Journal of Soils and Sediments.
