2018 Race report

The Longtown Llanthony Loop race welcomes back it's kid brother the Darrens Dash this year as part of the general bid for more accessible events for those new to fell running.

THE DARRENS DASH RACE IS BACK AFTER A 6 YEAR ABSENCE

This shorter 8 km AS race is suitable for runners with limited fell running experience and is partially marked.

LONGTOWN LLANTHONY LOOP RACE

This longer 12.6 km AM race shares a partially marked section with the Darrens Dash and then follows a more demanding course requiring some navigational skills and route choice.  It is not suitable for novices.

The stunning route crosses Hatterrall Ridge via Loxidge Tump and descends steeply towards the field boundary above Llanthony Priory before ascending to the 552m trig point and returning to Longtown via the Rhiw.

This is a serious fell (Category 'AM') race. Full kit must be carried (Body and leg cover, Hat, Gloves, Map, Compass, Whistle).

The event proceeds will go to the Longtown Outdoor Learning Trust Bursary Fund to enable deprived youngsters to experience their own outdoor adventures in the local area: WWW.LONGTOWNOUTDOORLEARNING.CO.UK

Category prizes (fell race categories are used)

No dogs please - lambing will be in progress.

Car Parking, refreshments, changing rooms and hot showers at the Event Centre.

The Darrens Dash course is partially marked.  After a short run downhill to cross the Olchon Brook, the course leads up through the fields and then open country to the Hatterrall Ridge, where it turns south east to follow Offa's Dyke path to the 552 m trig point. From here it follows the Offa's Dyke path until the descent turn when the route heads north then north east back through the fields and across the brook before a short up-hill section to finish.
