The project is being funded by Biffa Award (www.biffa-award.org). Since 1997, the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT) has been awarding grants to environmental and community projects under the fund name Biffa Award. The fund administers money donated by Biffa Group Ltd, a leading integrated waste management business.

 Under the Landfill Tax Regulations 1996, landfill operators like Biffa Group Ltd are liable for taxes on waste deposited in landfill sites. The Landfill Communities Fund allows them to donate a small percentage of their tax liability to projects working to improve communities living within the vicinity of landfill sites. To date, Biffa Award has awarded grants totalling more than £140 million to thousands of worthwhile projects.

The aim of the Pool Piece project is to create a village green suitable for a range of community activities as well as a creating a stimulating play area and a place for general seating and relaxation. Work has begun although we have, of course, had the challenge of the Welsh Water Board closing roads to relay new water pipes. This has affected access to the site. For this reason we are planning to undertake the landscaping in two phases to allow the Water Board to finish their work and reopen roads. Stage one of the landscaping has been completed. (See table). Turf has been laid on the stepped area and the newly created flat area has been seeded

During stage two we are hoping to resolve the problem of the water gathering/flooding by the willow tree by putting in additional land drains. We anticipate installing play equipment around January 2014, (weather permitting), as both the landscaper and providers of the equipment felt it advisable for the site to settle after the groundwork before any equipment was put in place.
