Footpaths

In England and Wales a public footpath is a path on which the public have a legally protected right to travel on foot.  Most footpaths in the countryside are probably hundreds of years old. The majority of footpaths are shown on Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 maps. We are very fortunate to have a good selection of varied local footpaths around the Parish of Wellington Heath (see map here and associated list of footpaths here ) and even more so to have willing volunteers who help manage and maintain them.

Our Wellington Heath Parish Footpath Officer (PFO) are Diana Harrison and Judith Hammill.

They, and the volunteer Footpath Maintenance Team, work to maintain our Parish’s Public Rights Of Way and footpaths.

Judith and Diana aim to walk the footpaths as regularly as possible, frequently armed with trusty secateurs. They look out for encroaching undergrowth, faded Waymarkers and any structures needing care and attention.

They are well supported by a small group of volunteers from the village who don thick gloves and come armed with various tools to clear brambles, nettles, shrubs and trees. If you are interested in volunteering with the Footpath Maintenance Team please contact Judith.

If you have footpath issues that you would like to report – then please contact  Judith via the Wellington Heath Noticeboard on Facebook, by email at judith@hammill.plus.com or by telephone on 01531 632191.

Alternatively you can contact Mary Barnett the Parish Council Clerk via email at clerk@wellingtonheathpc.org or by telephone on 01531 635103.

Herefordshire Council (like all County Councils) are legally required to provide the “Highways and public rights of way Map” for their County.  This is now online and interactive, you can find this by clicking here.
