We're known for our apple cider. The apple cider makes the house smell so good that I look for excuses to make it.
1 gallon apple cider (not from concentrate)
2 cinnamon sticks
12 cloves
4 cardamom pods
1 to 2 apples, cored and cut into chunks or slices
1 to 2 oranges, sliced with the peel (toss the 2 ends)
Optional: slices of ginger or candied ginger; fresh pineapple
Place the apple cider in a large pot. Place the cloves & cardamom pods in a tea strainer or tie together in a cheesecloth bag. Add to the cider along with the cinnamon sticks. Bring to a slow boil. Add the apples and oranges, reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes to 3 hours (the longer the better). Skim the cider if necessary.
