Class schedule: Please know that it is a guideline and as such is flexible, and changes according to how I plan out the day. I often use cross-curricular themes which integrate across subject areas.
Spelling: I do not do a formal spelling program with tests etc. We do, however, work daily on spelling through practicing sight words, phonics and word work (see handy printables page for a list of these dolch words).
Home Folders: Each student has a home folder to carry back and forth important notices and notes between home and school. Folders will only be sent home on days that we have notices to send.
Home Reading: Book bags are sent home in late September with books at your child's level. Each morning students are reminded to check their backpack for their home folder (for notices/notes/book orders) and their book bag and given the opportunity to change their book bag books.
Extra clothing/inside shoes: All students should have an extra change of clothes and a pair of inside shoes that may be left at school. For safety purposes it's very important that proper footwear be worn in the gym. The extra clothing really helps keep your child comfortable should they have an accident outside during wet weather.
Absences from school: If your child is absent, we will sometimes send "missed" work to be finished at home and return to school. Thank you for your help with this. In many instances the work is hands-on and tied to an activity that we have completed in class, so there is not always printed work that is available to send home. If your child is going to be away for an extended period due to illness or for a family holiday, please let us know.
Gym is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, however, we often have movement breaks in the afternoons.
Library is on Wednesdays.
