It has been a busy week!
We worked on a review of alphabet letters and sounds, wrote in our journals, are working on counting/number, began some work on the apple life cycle, read more books about friendship, assisted in planting the learning garden and took part in the Terry Fox Run!
We continue to work on routines and expectations for grade one which can be a big adjustment for some...as part of our core competencies work we review our class agreement and have been working a lot on social responsibility and communication at the beginning of the year. A big focus we use at school is the WITS (Walk away, Ignore, Talk it out, Seek help) language so that students have a frame of reference for problem solving .
This week we began our morning routine of Book Look (first thing each day) where students read their 'apron books' which are differentiated to be just right for each students' reading level. In other reading news, we were very excited that they achieved 20 minutes of reading stamina during our DEAR (Drop Everything and READ) time!
An interim report focusing on behaviour and student engagement will be coming home soon as well as a letter outlining the District's 'Communicating Student Learning' Pilot program.
As we have two field trips coming up in October, it is very important that parents/guardians fill out all online consent forms ASAP. Please go here to complete: https://consent.sd62.bc.ca/apps/OnlineConsent
