Welcome back!

It has been a very busy and exciting time of year for all of us here at Ruth King Elementary as we get settled into new classes and routines. We are looking forward to getting to know your child…it is going to be a great year!

This year we are excited to welcome Ms. Radsma back to Ruth King as my teaching partner. She will be teaching Wednesday mornings and Thursday afternoons.

Home Reading:

We are in the process of organizing our Home Reading program. Students will be borrowing classroom books to take home and read with an adult. When your child brings home their Home Reading Ziploc bag, please find an information sheet inside that will provide more information.

School Supplies:

· Your child requires a pair of indoor/gym running shoes which will stay at school. This helps to keep our new classroom carpet and gym floors clean and is a safety requirement for PE. If your child is still learning to tie his/her shoes, please help them learn to do this independently at home or send in Velcro/slip on shoes.

· We suggest that all students have a small bag they can hang on their hook in the cloakroom containing an extra pair of clothing/underwear/socks. This is especially handy as we head into the fall/winter rain season.

· Please ensure your child was sent in with a large coiled Hilroy scrapbook, pencils and two small pencil cases. If you need more information about this please come see us.

Pick-Ups/Drop offs:

· Students will be met at the bottom of the outside stairs first thing in the morning at the bell, and will be walked out to be dismissed in the same location. We recommend setting up a meeting spot with your child for after school times.

· If your child is going to be picked up by someone else or your after school routine is changing, please let us know by sending in a note.

Family photo:

· Could you please send in a 4x6 photo of your family for our class family tree? Thanks in advance J

Water Bottles: Your child is most welcome to send in a refillable water bottle to keep at their table spot during the day.

Class Information:

· Library - Our library time with Mr. Dranchuk is every Wednesday morning. Students are allowed to check out 2 books at a time.

· Gym - We have scheduled gym times on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, which we supplement with other inside/outside activity breaks, school-wide runs and the ‘Health Hustle’.

· Music - We are very lucky to have Ms. McLaren teaching Music/Drama/Dance Mondays.
