Lowers vs. Buffeting

If you experience a head buffeting at highway speeds, you can alleviate the problem with the installation of the Yamaha Chrome Windshield Lowers. work like a champ and are not too costly. Plus they look real nice!

Note: if you have the Yamaha Big Bars, the lowers will touch them slightly on full lock turns in both directions.

Two solutions:

a. put a short (2 inch) piece of flexible chrome door protection molding on the front of each side of the bar where the lowers touch, to avoid abrasion

b. put the lowers in a vice between two piece of wood, and "tweak" them about 1/4 inch or so - enough so they will clear the bars.

Another way - if you already have them mounted, and don't wan to use the plastic chrome strips, you can bend them while they are on the bike: Tx White Knight (Super8mm) says: I just held a piece of 3/4" ply wood up to the bar and brought the front end around gently to bend mine. If the first time they don't clear enough do it again a bit harder. I now have about 1/4 inch clearance when full right or left.

I have an '02 Classic and got very lucky on ebay and bought my old batwing for $15, just had it painted and am going to be putting it on in a day or 2. I used my Memphis Fats windshield mounting and a few extra braces.
